RULES
AND REGULATIONS FOR SAYING, "I DO"
IN THE TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS

- You must reside
in the Turks and Caicos Islands 48 hours before applying for the marriage
license. There is a period of 2 - 3 days before you can obtain the
license.
- There is a period of
2 to 3 weeks after the wedding to obtain the wedding
certificate,
NILA Destinations takes care mailing it to your home address.
Original Documents to be produced in person are:
- Passport
- Birth Certificate
- Proof of Status - If single a sworn
affidavit is required.
- If one of the parties is a divorcee,
then proof of Decree Absolute is required, either the original or a
notarized copy, sealed by the Clerk of the Court.
- In the case of a Widow/Widower the
Death Certificate of the previous spouse is required.
- If change of name by Deed Poll or
Adoption then proof is required.
- If under the age of 21 years then
evidence is required as consent of one or both partner or guardian, in the
form of an affidavit stamped by the Notary Public.
- The parties must not be within the
prohibited degree of relationships to each other.
- Letter stating both parties
occupations, marital status, age as of last birthday, present address of
residence and fathers full name.
- For church weddings most Ministers
require proof of membership.
- The parties must
be within the prohibited degrees of relationship to each other. A copy
of the relevant schedule to the Ordinance is appended for your guidance.

MARRIAGE ORDINANCE "THIRD SCHEDULE"
1. A Man shall
not marry:
- His mother or
any person to whom his father was at any time married.
- His father's
mother or any other person from whom his father is descended.
- His mothers mother
or any person from whom his mother is descended.
- The sister or
half-sister of any person specified in any of the foregoing
categories.
- His daughter
or any person descended from him.
- His sister or
half-sister of his.
- Any person descended
from Amy brother; half-brother sister or half-sister of his.
- Any person of
whom at the time in question he is the guardian or of whom he is the
ward; .or
- Any person born
as a male person.
2. A Woman
shall not marry:
- Her father or
any person to whom her mother was at any time Married.
- Her Mothers
father or any person to whom her mother is descended
- The brother
or half-brother of any person specmed in any of the foregoing categories.
- Her son or any
person descended from her
- Her brother
of half-brother
- Any person descended
from any person to whom she has at any time been married.
- Any person,
of whom at the time in question she is the guardian or of whom she is
the .ward; or
- Any person born
as a female person.
